Kalei Coffee co.

Beyond the chaotic streets of Mar Mikhael, away from the frenzied crowds and ear-splitting noise of the city lies an uncluttered café that is not to be missed. This relaxed space was created by two coffee enthusiasts and boy do they know their coffee!   THE BEAN     Kalei started out as a micro-roastery which later expanded into a specialty coffee shop. The owners travel around the globe to countries that produce coffee, like Ethiopia and Colombia, visiting farms in order to buy the bean that is then roasted and freshly brewed here in Lebanon. Not only that but some of the coffees they offer like the Colombian variety are both certified organic and fair trade. So you can enjoy the authentic coffee flavor and pat yourself on the back for supporting the environment and a better life for coffee farmers. Their coffee packs are sold both as single bean origin and blends. They can be found in many shops and restaurants, as well as both their café and on their online shop, along with different …

Chez Alain – Broumana

We’ve all heard the saying “Too much of a good thing is bad for you”. Well, we tend to disagree. A beautiful hotel, stunning interior, exquisite food and impeccable service; These are the things that will make your night at Chez Alain, The Grand Hills Broumana. Apart from the beauty of the hotel and the mouthwatering dishes, what contributed the most to our perfect evening was Mounir. Friendly and helpful, Mounir was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. The Interior   Just in case you were in doubt of the cuisine you’re about to indulge in, the Eiffel Tower replica is there to enlighten you. A glass of wine in hand, we sat enjoying the view both indoor and out. The interior is grand and refined, the dramatic textures and floor to ceiling patterns took us back to past times and sparked glimpses of French decadence. The food   The Salmon Tartare was excellent, with perfectly chopped salmon and the right amount of seasonings. Delicious. For mains, we opted for the Beef Tenderloin with roasted baby potatoes and herb …

IHOP – The International House of Pancakes

You know that big stack of thick, fluffy dreamy pancakes you always saw on TV but thought it was too good to be true !!! Well, brace yourself. In the midst of the huddled restaurants and shops at the Spot mall in Choueifat, you’ll find the beloved all American, old school breakfast (& more) joint IHOP (International House Of Pancakes). IHOP’s interior is a typical American style diner, with an indoor and outdoor seating area and a small bar in the back where they make drinks and smoothies. You’ll also find on each table 4 syrup dispensers in different flavors; strawberry, butter pecan, blueberry and the old fashioned. The butter Pecan was our favorite. The Menu   The menu is big and very clearly sectioned with nifty little pictures of each item. There are a lot more than just breakfast dishes here so you’ll find everything from eggs and pancakes to burgers and fried chicken. If you are anything like me and can never decide on one dish the combo section is the answer. One plate can …

Very Berry Porridge

Breakfast is the best part of waking up and breakfast foods are quite the obsession of mine. Now I know porridge doesn’t exactly sound like an indulgence or at least that’s what I used to think, but in my efforts to become healthier I started testing out a few new recipes and porridge quickly became a favorite. It is so versatile and easily adaptable to any dietary preference not to mention full of soluble fiber, vitamins, and minerals… and perfect for a warming winter meal or fruity fresh summery breakfast. Porridge is made by boiling oats, quinoa, millet, buckwheat or any other grain of your choice in water or milk (or both) you can even use 100% fruit juice like apple juice, for example, to give it a sweeter fruity flavor; but the fun is in the add-ins, because up until now the mixture is very bland and flavorless (fruit juice aside) so to jazz it up, you can add your favorite fruits (fresh, frozen or dried), nuts, jams, nut butter, chocolate… You can even make …

M eet the man behind Meats & Bread. If you happen to be new to the food scene or have better things to do than keep up with daily restaurant news (Seriously?!), Chef Riad is behind the legendary burger at Ferdinand’s and now the much talked about Meats & Bread Hardcore BBQ in Gemmayze. The Interior   You’ll find on the menu; smoked wings, brisket, pulled pork, sausage roll, baby back ribs, salads, steaks and more. The interior is casual and unpretentious, but you could definitely bring a date here on Saturday night (and chances are they’ll be very much impressed). This is one of the coolest places in Beirut where you can eat in your sweats any day of the week. The food   Flapping Wings We’re surprised it took this long for someone to step up and shock us with the best wings we’ve ever had. Ladies and Gents meet the flapping wings, officially our #1 wings in Lebanon. Holy Grail Brisket-KC Moist, tender and flavorful served in a pretzel bun with fries on …

Fleur Thé

Not only is this unique café/restaurant home to one of the best chocolat chaud viennois artisanal but it’s also the perfect spot to get your creative juices flowing. The funky, colorful, rustic interior was designed by none other than the owner herself, Juliana Tarazi. The idea behind it was to create a warm, cozy familiar space for her customers to relax and feel at home. The Interior This place looks delicious, yes I said delicious! As you walk in from the low key terrace engulfed by greens, trees and lovely potted plants, you are overwhelmed by a flood of colors, textures and fabrics. Many of the pieces were acquired by the owner on her travels, the mix of natural materials in the furniture such as stone, wood, linen and glass are what gives this place it’s unique character. The quirky table setting was quite different from any other place we’ve visited. The tableware are bright with eye-popping color and soft, tasteful patterns. FleurThé’s walls also double as a gallery of beautiful works of art by an Iranian …

Friday night At Deek’Matic

We passed by Deek’Matic last Friday night and tried the boss wings, crunchy strips, fries, romano’matic, swis’shroom burger, wild west burger and light chicken..  Alot of love goes into the food preparations at Deek’Matic and this is clearly noticed once you decide to eat there. We were blown away, everything was perfect!   The boss wings were one of the best we’ve had. The crunchy strips, prepared in house regular or spicy were enjoyable with the deek’matic sauce. The romano’matic served with pesto mayo was excellent the homemade sauce smells and tastes amazing. Their light menu is not to be overlooked, we tried the light chicken sandwich with mustard sauce served in a brown panini made especially for deek’matic. It’s a simple, healthy and delicious choice. Both burgers we tried are highly recommended. The wild west burger was our favorite. Juicy, delicious and we loved the crunchy homemade onion rings with the chicken. We wouldn’t change anything about it.

Kempinski’s Decadent Sunday Brunch

Brunch is all about eating great food, enjoying your time, feeling  pampered and down right royal.. or at least that’s how we feel about it and that is exactly what Candelabra is offering. This lovely brunch spot at the Kempinski Summerland Hotel & Resort offers something for every palate from standout savory dishes and live cooking stations to luscious sweets and pastries. “A fancy hotel restaurant that serves a decadent Sunday buffet-style brunch”      The swanky restaurant’s extensive brunch buffet featured some of our favorite eats. Fancy some live grilling for brunch? Sure, why not… Oysters and Fresh seafood ? they have that too ! Now we know what you are thinking.. where are the eggs Benedict, the sausages, the pancakes and waffles? Well they don’t necessarily serve a lot of breakfast dishes for the Sunday brunch (They are available in the breakfast buffet if you are interested) but they serve a vast selection of dishes that are nothing short of amazing. Have a look for yourself .. Now it goes without saying that the service was impeccable. the waiters are attentive but do not hover, they …

Lunch at Villa Badaro

We headed to Villa Badaro on Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was the day before the Marathon and the roads were packed, after struggling to find a parking spot we were more than ready for a nice quiet lunch. Walking into the terrace surrounded by trees and greenery the place was almost full but our table was waiting for us, we were seated and handed the menu. The restaurant was so charming, minimal furniture in beautiful sober colors, a fountain, trees and lots of light. The menu has a good variety of dishes without being overwhelming (Check out the Menu here). Food Rundown The Cheese Rolls // Thick golden sticks stuffed with a mix of Gouda, Emmental, Parmesan and white Cheddar literally bursting out served with cocktail dipping sauce. This appetizer will make any cheese lover completely lose his/her mind.   The Rock Shrimp Tempura // Quite enjoyable! The crispy batter is almost like a thick dough and not flaky, not too oily and we loved the sprinkled spices on top, gives them this extra kick.   The Curried Shrimp // A subtle dish! taste wise was alright, …

Lunch at Bou Melhem

It’s always exciting when we find a restaurant with a signature dish that adds a twist to an old favorite. We’re even happier when the rest of the dishes are absolutely delicious. Bou Melhem is a Lebanese restaurant priding itself on preserving the Lebanese traditions, from their food to their infamous traditional Lebanese entertainment nights. Our experience in a nutshell: great food, Friendly staff and reasonable prices (Check out the Menu) THE FOOD   Hawader Bou Melhem & Salads // As all Lebanese lunches go, the table was packed with delicious plates of cold Mezze. We started off with the Fattoush, fresh and crunchy but we felt it could use a little kick; the warak enab were fantastic and so was the Baladieh Cheese topped with olives, radish, walnut and bakleh. It was the first time we try the El Raheb Eggplant, it was topped with bell pepper, spring onions, tomatoes and parsley a very refreshing dish. The Walnut Muhammara, a fabulous spread of Crushed walnut, bread crumbs, red pepper and pomegranate molasses, it was not too spicy and the flavors were well balanced. The star of the table was the Smoked Hummus; made of …
